In the run-up to the 2024 Senate race in Texas, Sen. Ted Cruz, a Republican, took a swipe at his Democratic opponent, Rep. Colin Allred, highlighting the meager attendance at a recent campaign event, Fox News reported. Allred asserted that enthusiastic crowds in Bexar County, the state's fourth-most populous county, are eagerly prepared to rally behind his candidacy.

Allred made his political debut by securing a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018. His journey began with a notable victory over then-incumbent Pete Sessions, who had changed congressional districts and later returned to the House through re-election. Allred, a Democrat, went on to win two subsequent terms in office. 

Announcing his bid for the U.S. Senate, Allred said, "I’m running for U.S. Senate because Texans deserve a senator whose team is Texas."

After his 2016 presidential campaign, Cruz secured a re-election victory in November 2018, triumphing over former Rep. Beto O'Rourke. O'Rourke's subsequent bids for the presidency and the Texas governorship both ended in defeat. 

Allred collected $6.2 million during the initial two months of his Senate campaign, The Texas Tribune reported. Alongside this, he moved $2.4 million from his House campaign fund, resulting in a total of $8.6 million in receipts by the end of June.
